Microneedling Brisbane
SkinPen Microneedling FAQ’s
What is microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is a treatment involving the movement of a pen-like device, containing small needles, over the skin’s surface. By creating small, controlled wounds microneedling makes your skin produce more collagen, elastin and enzymes.
What are microneedling benefits?
Microneedling renews your skin from the inside out and can have varied benefits. It is clinically proven to thicken the epidermis, reduce fine lines, heal scar tissue and pigmentation.
How long does it take?
The procedure is normally completed within 30–60 minutes
Does it hurt?
Yes, it can be uncomfortable, especially on the forehead. The pain is bearable. There is an option to add on numbing cream prior to treatment.
What is the downtime?
After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed in appearance, like a moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on certain areas. This will diminish significantly within a few hours following the procedure. Within the next 24 hours, the skin will often appear to have returned to normal. After three days, there is rarely evidence that the procedure has taken place. Try not to schedule any events for the 24-48 hours after your treatment.
How do I prepare for my treatment?
Avoid sun exposure/ burns 24 hours prior, discontinue active skincare ingredients 24-72 hours prior. Have a read of the consent information prior to your appointment to gain more understanding of the process.
How many treatments do I need?
It is recommended to have an initial series of 3 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart. Top up treatments can then be done twice a year
What is the difference between SkinPen and other devices?
I chose to use SkinPen at Leap because it is clinically proven to provide results, is one of the few T.G.A approved devices in Australia and has customised needle depth control

Exosome FAQ’s
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are small nano sized vesicles that are produced by cells. They can be produced by cells in plants, animals and humans. At Leap, we use human based exosomes (exomide brand) because they communicate more effectively with your cells, compared to a plant exosome.
How do they work?
When applied after microneedling, exosomes have cell-to-cell communication influencing surrounding cells to regenerate and repair. The microneedling process allows the exosomes to have maximum effect and penetrate the dermis. Exomide skin helps to strengthen the skin barrier, firm lax skin, and minimise wrinkles, pores, and pigmentation. It also regulates oiliness, enhances skin elasticity, boosts collagen, and promotes overall skin evenness and vascularity.
How is this different to PRP or a ‘vampire facial’?
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is produced form your own blood. The platelets are then isolated and re applied to your skin. Your platelets contain 6-8 growth factors and are dependent on your current age and health status. Exomide contains 30 growth factors and is a consistent formula obtained from healthy stem cells.
How many sessions do I need?
It is recommended to have 3-4 sessions spaced one month apart. Top up sessions can then be done every 6 months.
How long until I see results?
Results are visible 1 month after treatment, optimal results are seen 3 months after treatment.
What is the downtime?
Downtime is similar to that of microneedling alone, however the regenerative effect of exosomes can reduce the recovery time.
